If you’re looking for the best burgers in Winnipeg, it can be tricky. You’ll want to know where to look and who has the most delicious burgers. Luckily, there are places that advertise themselves as having the best burgers in town, but are they telling the truth? We’ll help you determine what’s really going on by providing some objectivity with our own burger rating system.
As avid burger-eaters, we know our way around a menu. We’ve tried A LOT of burgers in Winnipeg and checked out reviews left by locals to see what they’re saying about the best burgers around.
Some were amazing, while others were just eh.
We’ve made sure to only visit local joints, and stayed away from bigger nationwide chains.
So to make sure that you get the perfect burger next time your slider craving kicks in, we’ve compiled a list of the best 5 burgers in Winnipeg:
SuperBoy’s (Main St.)
SuperBoy’s is one of those places that people just love in Winnipeg. Located on Main St., but enjoyed by people from all over town.
This family owned restaurant has been serving burgers since 1985 (that’s 36 years!!), and have survived this long for a good reason.
Our favorite burger has to be the double Super Boy. It may look like an ordinary cheeseburger, but there’s a surprise. The burger is topped with amazing chili sauce that takes it to the next level.
You can also enjoy they’re great fries. They serve those with gravy, chili sauce, or straight up poutine.
The Burger Place (Portage, King Edward area)
Originally founded in the late 80’s, this family owned burger joint has switched hands over the years. Although management has changed, the quality always stayed top-notch.
They serve classic burgers, and nothing too fancy.
We love they’re cheeseburger, and especially it’s mustard chili topping.
So if you’re on Portage in the King Edward area, just off of highway 90, don’t miss this great joint.
St. James Burger (Ness Ave.)
Not too far from The Burger Place, you’ll find St. James Burger.
I you’ll ask a Winnipegger for his top 5 burger joints in town, chances are St. James Burger is on their list.
The best thing about St. James Burger has to be their endless list of toppings. Although the burgers themselves might be traditional, you can customize them to fit your taste.
Our favorite combo? Adding fried egg and a hashbrown patty to their double bacon cheeseburger.
Not convinced yet? Checkout St. James Burger instagram to wake your taste buds.
VJ’s Drive In (Main St.)
Talking about a real Winnipeg institution. This burger joint has been around for decades and they’re still kicking.
Located on Main and Broadway, and not too far from The Forks, this place is in the heart of down town Winnipeg.
Their menu is simple but the pressed patties that they serve are fantastic.
Want to take this meal to a whole new level? You have to try one of their milkshake together with the slider.
Those old timers don’t really have a website, nor a Facebook page, so just drop by if you’re down town. Oh, and cash only…
Daly Burgers (Corydon)
If you thought the Winnipeg’s Little Italy is only for Italian food, think again!
In Daly Burgers you’ll find some more specialty burgers, and just your good ol’ cheeseburger.
Our favorite more special burger with those guys must be their Greek Burger. With feta and tzatziki you’ll have a different kind of experience on your burger.
So if you’re on Corydon and tired of Italian food, you have to check this place!

Whoa, you missed THE best couple of burgers in the city. I know burgers, I live burgers, I eat burgers, I drive miles and miles to taste burgers. The number one burger comes from OSCARS DELI- “THE DIRTY BURGER” the second best burger is “THE DRUNKEN AUSSIE ” from Nu Burger. There you have it, please include in the list.
Good choices, thanks for a great list.
